L4LL Latino Children’s Summer Reading Program Registration Closes 7/14!

It’s been a little shhhh this week on The Wise Latina Club. For those who don’t know, the literacy organization I co-founded Latinas for Latino Literature (L4LL) started the first, online, nationwide Latino children’s summer reading program, currently underway.

This project was born in our hearts with demands, benchmarks, and deadlines that have consumed my partner Monica Olivera and I, leaving little to go around. Despite the grueling schedule and the tsunami of work, we have kept marching forward, inspired by more than 600 families who have registered and are reading with their children.

These Hispanic families come from all parts of the U.S., including a military base in Germany (!), plus Mexico, Colombia, Bolivia, and Gran Canaria. All are united by the love of reading and the belief that cultivating this as a integral part of our lifestyle, from as early as in utero, will harvest educational excellence. Reading hones important language skills. But it also nourishes structure in our chaotic lives and intimacy at home.

Registration for our summer reading program closes Sunday, July 14, 2013 at midnight. Please click here to register, if you haven’t or share this blog post with everyone you know–neighbors, familia, co-workers, amigos. Readers can still participate after July 14 but won’t qualify to compete for our great giveaways to reward kids for their hard work. Prizes include backpacks filled with school supplies and tablet computers!

So don’t forget to register and no matter who you are, participating family or TWLC/Viviana Hurtado supporter, ¡A leer!
