¡Buenas tardes from Tampa, where I’m here covering the 2012 Republican Convention with LATISM! I’ll be live tweeting speeches, interviewing people, filming and editing video to bring you a unique, behind the curtain view of the RNC 2012. In particular, I’ll be focusing on “unpacking” the mystery of our political system and making in accessible, especially to Latinos. As our community grows, it’s vital that we participate fully and passionately in our communities and the political process. But for civic engagement to really matter, we need to become informed on the issues.
It’s having “skin in this game called America” as I like to call it.
It’s a first on many levels. I’ve never been to a convention. Neither has LATISM which is also going to the Democratic National Convention next week in Charlotte, North Carolina. Both of us have teamed up to shine a spotlight on the election, the candidates, and the issues before the November election. Simply put, our exploding demographic numbers mean little if we don’t have corresponding political power. And that comes from participation.

LATISM To Set Up Listening Stations at Republican and Democratic Conventions
Coverage To Include Live-Posts By Social Media Influencers, Interviews With Key Players, Tweetups And On-Site Voter Registration.

Washington, DC – August 28, 2012 – LATISM, the largest organization of Latinos in the social media arena today announced its coverage plans for both the Republican and Democratic 2012 conventions. The organization’s coverage will feature a strong key influencers presence and its signature LATISM tweetups at both conventions. The Republican Party National Convention is happening from August 28th to 30th in Tampa, Florida, followed by the Democratic Party convention from September 4th to 6th in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“As a non-partisan organization, we are extremely excited to be covering both of these events,” said LATISM Founder and Chair, Ana Roca Castro. “Our goal is to give online influencial Latino(a)s a place to congregate and engage with key players of both campaigns. Latino voters will cast the deciding vote in the upcoming elections, and we want to make sure that the concerns and issues affecting our community are brought to light, and that our strong and diverse voices are felt throughout these important events. The listening stations and voting tools we’ll be sharing will help Latinos make an informed decision on November 6th.”
Highlights of the conventions coverage plans:
• LATISM will have a dedicated group of political bloggers, who will provide up-to-the-minute and behind-the-scenes reporting, including live blogging and photo uploads across all social media platforms.
• Listening stations where attendees hear the opinion of key players regarding issues affecting our Latino community. Influencers will voice their opinions and commentary about the convention speeches, to get to the root of people’s decision to vote for particular candidates.
• On-site voter registration assistance.
